Synopsis
Another chapter of the Ice People's story begins in 1625, as the Thirty Years' War rages in Europe and draws in many of the family's young men, with devastating consequences. Cecilie Meiden, Tengel's granddaughter, beautiful and talented, with a bright future ahead of her, still serves at King Christian IV's court in Denmark, caring for the king's children. But one night of passion has changed the course of her life: she is pregnant by a man who is, to make matters worse, a priest, and she must navigate the intrigue and betrayals of the Danish court without her condition being discovered. She longs for her good friend the Marquis Alexander Paladin, kind, wealthy and devastatingly handsome, but he faces a catastrophe of his own: rumour has it that he is guilty of an unforgivable sin, punishable by death. Meanwhile the evil inheritance of the Ice People lives on, and no one knows where it will strike next.

Notes
- From the series record (The Legend of the Ice People): The original 47-volume saga (1982-1989) following the cursed Ice People clan across generations of Scandinavian history, marked by inherited supernatural gifts, a medallion-bound curse, and (in its later volumes) an underground kingdom where time itself runs differently. Two later continuations exist (a further ~35 volumes across two more parts, published years afterward) and are not yet catalogued here pending closer genre review.
