Synopsis
Nearly two decades later the story follows a new generation of the Ice People, as Tengel the Good grows old and the defence of the family's legacy passes to the young. Yrja Mattiasdotter, a poor farmer's daughter disfigured by illness, is mocked by everyone and called the Thistle, and she has a greater sorrow still: she is hopelessly in love with the rich and handsome Tarald, son of the baron Dag Meiden and Liv of the Ice People. Tarald has eyes only for his beautiful cousin Sunniva, and despite everyone's warnings the two nineteen-year-olds have a child together, though the evil inheritance makes any union between them fateful. Meanwhile Cecilie, the youngest of the four friends, travels to Denmark to care for King Christian IV's children and meets resistance along with her own romantic troubles.

Notes
- From the series record (The Legend of the Ice People): The original 47-volume saga (1982-1989) following the cursed Ice People clan across generations of Scandinavian history, marked by inherited supernatural gifts, a medallion-bound curse, and (in its later volumes) an underground kingdom where time itself runs differently. Two later continuations exist (a further ~35 volumes across two more parts, published years afterward) and are not yet catalogued here pending closer genre review.
