Synopsis

Shattered by the fury of the powers he unleashed, Damiano Delstrego has renounced his magical heritage to live as an ordinary man, with nothing left but his music. Accompanied by the Archangel Raphael's guidance, the chidings of a brash young rogue, Gaspare, and the memory of the pagan witch Saara, he wanders north into a French countryside ravaged by the plague, earning his bread as a lutenist in search of some kind of peace. But the Father of Lies has not forgotten him: Lucifer reaches out once more to grasp the young man whose soul he covets, and to avert the hellish destiny being prepared for him Damiano must face the greatest forces of darkness armed only with his love and the music of his lute.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Damiano Trilogy): R. A. MacAvoy's historical fantasy of a Renaissance Italy, France and Moorish Spain where faith-based magic works: the young alchemist and lutenist Damiano Delstrego, his friend and teacher the Archangel Raphael, the pagan witch Saara and the Devil who covets them. Collected as A Trio for Lute (1985).
