Synopsis
Dancer's Lament is the first novel in the Path to Ascendancy trilogy, a prequel set well before the main events of the Malazan Book of the Fallen. It tells the origin story of the empire that will eventually become the Malazan Empire, following the skilled and enigmatic assassin known simply as Dancer and the ambitious, calculating mage Kellanved as they first cross paths and begin building the partnership, and the reputation, that will eventually reshape an entire continent's balance of power, long before either man is known by the very different names that later history and legend will come to remember them by.
