Synopsis
David Mogo, Godhunter is a 2019 novel set in Lagos in the aftermath of a cataclysm called the Falling, in which thousands of orishas -- deities of Yoruba and wider West African mythology -- descended into the city and now roam its streets. David Mogo is a demigod who scrapes together a living as a freelance god-hunter, tracking down and dealing with the stray divinities left behind by the disaster. When a powerful wizard hires him for a job that goes well beyond his usual work, David is pulled into a conflict involving ancient forces far more dangerous than the minor gods he is used to handling, forcing him to confront both the wreckage the Falling left on his city and the extent of his own divine heritage. The novel recasts Lagos as the center of an African-rooted urban fantasy, drawing on Yoruba cosmology rather than the Western mythologies more common to the genre.
