Synopsis

The final Southern Vampire Mysteries novel finds Sookie's relationship with her vampire husband Eric Northman cooling sharply after he is compelled by his maker to marry another vampire, Freyda, the Queen of Oklahoma, leaving Sookie feeling endangered and betrayed, particularly since she chose to use a powerful magical artifact to save Sam Merlotte rather than to help Eric escape the arranged marriage. Now a part owner of the bar where she has long worked, Sookie leans on her demon godfather Desmond Cataliades, several witch allies, and Sam, who has recently been brought back from death, for support as new troubles mount.
