Synopsis

The twelfth Southern Vampire Mysteries novel opens with Sookie still dealing with the consequences of Eric's killing of Victor, the representative sent by vampire King Felipe de Castro, an act Eric carried out with help from Bill, Sookie, Pam, and others. When Felipe arrives to personally investigate Victor's death, the discovery of a dead woman on Eric's lawn draws unwelcome police scrutiny and casts suspicion directly onto him. At the same time, a magical wish-granting object tied to Sookie's fairy inheritance attracts the attention of unknown and dangerous seekers, while Eric faces a painful conflict between his maker's command that he marry Freyda, the vampire Queen of Oklahoma, and his relationship with Sookie.
