Synopsis

The tenth Southern Vampire Mysteries novel finds Sookie still recovering from torture she suffered at the hands of fairies in the previous book, now settled into a relationship with vampire Eric Northman while her brother Jason appears to have found stability with a new girlfriend. That fragile calm is disrupted by the arrival of Eric's maker, Appius Livius Ocella, accompanied by the volatile, mentally unstable vampire Alexei, forcing Eric to confront painful obligations from his past. At the same time, Bill Compton is suffering from a slow, agonizing silver poisoning, and a vampire named Victor begins targeting people close to Sookie in a campaign of assassination attempts tied to ongoing power struggles among Louisiana's vampires.
