Synopsis

Sookie travels to New Orleans in the sixth Southern Vampire Mysteries novel to settle the affairs of her recently deceased vampire cousin Hadley, a trip that draws her into the household of Hadley's witch landlady, Amelia Broadway, and into contact with vampire queen Sophie-Anne Leclerq and her new husband, King Peter Threadgill of Arkansas. While in the city, Sookie is attacked by a newly turned, unstable vampire, and the queen enlists her telepathic help to track down a missing diamond bracelet given to her by Threadgill as part of their marriage arrangement. At the same time, Sookie's boyfriend John Quinn is also present in New Orleans, and the Pelt family, still bearing a grudge from earlier events, attempts to kidnap Sookie during her stay.
