Synopsis

Tobias O. Meißner's novel is set in Orison, a realm divided into nine baronies around its capital. Demons imprisoned long ago in the Dämonenschlund escape after King Tenmac III and his advisers visit it: two demons, Gäus and Irathindur, possess the king and a baroness. Irathindur declares her barony independent and crowns herself, and other barons follow her example. Meanwhile the imprisoned Minten Liago is drawn into an underground fighting league, and he and his lover Jinua are sent to stir up the Coldriner barbarians. The conflict between the demons escalates into open war across the land. Piper published the book in 2008 as the first part of a trilogy.
