Synopsis
Discount Armageddon is the first novel in Seanan McGuire's InCryptid urban fantasy series, following Verity Price, a member of a family of cryptozoologists who protect the secret population of cryptids living among humans. While pursuing a ballroom dancing career in Manhattan, Verity's monitoring of the local cryptid community draws her into conflict with an operative from the Covenant of St. George, an organization dedicated to eradicating cryptids. As Verity tries to balance her double life of dance competitions by day and cryptid patrols by night, the arrival of the Covenant agent forces her to decide how far she will go to protect the hidden creatures of New York City from an organization that sees them only as monsters to be exterminated.
Where it sits
- Universe: InCryptid
- Series: InCryptid core; position 1 of 15 in the series' recorded order
- Author: Seanan McGuire
Notes
- From the series record (InCryptid): Multi-generation cryptozoologist family (the Prices/Hayleighs) vs. the Covenant of St. George; DAW. A 16th novel is anticipated by some third-party listings but is not announced on the author's own bibliography page, and is not registered (Article 2). McGuire has also published 50+ further InCryptid short stories/novellas (anthologies, bonus content, Patreon); deliberately deferred as Expanded Canon out of scope, per the same scale-driven deferral this project already applied to Oz's Famous Forty continuation books.
Neighbouring works
Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
- Publication order, within the series InCryptid: position 1 of 15: next Midnight Blue-Light Special (2013)
