Synopsis
In Seanan McGuire's second InCryptid novel, Verity Price balances ballroom dance competitions with cryptid-protection work in New York City while dodging the monster-hunting Covenant. Having survived her earlier encounter with a Covenant operative, Verity now finds the organization's continued interest in the city drawing her deeper into danger, even as she tries to keep her cryptozoologist family's secret work hidden from the human dance world around her. Old alliances and new threats among the city's hidden cryptid population complicate her efforts to keep both her double life and her adopted community intact, as the Covenant's presence in New York proves harder to shake than she had hoped when her first brush with them ended.
Where it sits
- Universe: InCryptid
- Series: InCryptid core; position 2 of 15 in the series' recorded order
- Author: Seanan McGuire
Notes
- From the series record (InCryptid): Multi-generation cryptozoologist family (the Prices/Hayleighs) vs. the Covenant of St. George; DAW. A 16th novel is anticipated by some third-party listings but is not announced on the author's own bibliography page, and is not registered (Article 2). McGuire has also published 50+ further InCryptid short stories/novellas (anthologies, bonus content, Patreon); deliberately deferred as Expanded Canon out of scope, per the same scale-driven deferral this project already applied to Oz's Famous Forty continuation books.
Neighbouring works
Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
- Publication order, within the series InCryptid: position 2 of 15: previous Discount Armageddon (2012) · next Half-Off Ragnarok (2014)
