Synopsis

Fortune is a young dragon of the Naturals, a newer strain of dragons, whose home is destroyed. He joins Cumber, an older gold-winged dragon of the Charmed, the old magical order, and together they set out for the legendary Charmed citadel to learn the truth about the turning of the world and the fading of charm. On the way they meet faeries, ancient trolls and an awakened basilisk, and they see a conflict growing between the two dragon races. Gathering companions from both, they look for a way to unite the dragons against a larger danger, a world turning away from magic that threatens to end their kind. There are almost no humans in the story.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Ultimate Dragon Saga): Fortune and Cumber's journey through a world of fading magic, told entirely from the dragons' side.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series The Ultimate Dragon Saga: position 1 of 3: next Dragonstorm (1996)
  • Internal chronology, within The Ultimate Dragon Saga: position 1 of 4: next The Dragons of Bloodrock (2020)
