Synopsis
After the Gathering of the Deathless left the basilisk Ocher mortal, some dragons changed by the event form a secret underground cult that wants to bring back charm. Its leader worships a destructive power he calls the Flame. Aria joins the cult, and her companion Fortune rescues her and flees across the sea, but the leader pursues them using the unnatural reach of that power. Meanwhile Aria's son, who was born without wings, begins a pilgrimage around the world, fixed on a comet in the sky. The separate journeys draw toward a vast crater where rival dragon factions gather.
