Synopsis
Picking up in the same year as the previous novel, weeks into the Third Pass, this book follows Fiona, a gold dragonrider who has already lived through an extraordinary journey through time. Early in the story a catastrophic disaster wipes out Telgar Weyr entirely, killing hundreds of dragon-and-rider pairs in a single stroke. Fiona and her young dragonriders are transferred there, and she once again takes up the role of Weyrwoman, this time for a Weyr rebuilding from near-total loss. With the dragon population already thinned by a recent plague and now missing an entire Weyr's strength, the surviving riders are stretched dangerously thin defending Pern from Thread. Fiona and her fellow riders must confront the grim likelihood that there may not be enough dragons left to see the Pass through to its end.
