Synopsis

Dragonseye is set roughly two hundred fifty years after the original Landing on Pern, just before and during the Second Pass of Thread, generations before the events of the main series. As Thread begins falling again after a long interval, the colony must rely on incomplete and partly forgotten records to predict its exact timing and defend the Holds. The story follows several figures grappling with this crisis, including the college administrator Clisser, the headstrong regional leader Chalkin, the Weyrleader and Weyrwoman K'vin and Zulaya, the craftsman Iantine, and the dragonrider Debera, among them a Weyrwoman working to correctly calculate the astronomical timing of Threadfall using degraded ancestral knowledge. The novel also touches on the difficulties of raising young dragons and an unconventional dragon-rider pairing, set against a broader unease about how much of the colonists' original technology and history has already been lost.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
