Synopsis

The barbarian horde of the Tuigan has breached the ancient Dragonwall and now threatens the eastern empire of Shou Lung, in the land of Kara-Tur. Powerful as they are, the Shou army's only hope lies with Batu Min Ho, a young general who is himself a third-generation descendant of Tuigan barbarians. Meanwhile Batu's wife must fight her own battle in the treacherous politics of the imperial court, where a spy is trying to undermine the emperor's confidence in her husband; if Batu is to keep his command and save Shou Lung, it is a battle she must not lose. The second book of the Empires Trilogy, by Troy Denning, told from the side of Shou Lung.
