Synopsis
Earthquake Weather brings back characters from the earlier Fault Lines novels, weaving together two fugitives who have escaped from a psychiatric hospital with a plot rooted in California's secret occult history, including the mystical significance attached to wine production in the state's vineyards. The story explores the idea that multiple personality disorder can carry a magical dimension, tying the fugitives' fractured identities to a larger supernatural conflict playing out across California landmarks, including scenes set at the Winchester Mystery House. As the earlier books' surviving characters and unresolved magical stakes converge, the novel builds toward a confrontation over succession to the mystical power at the heart of the trilogy, blending psychological upheaval with the series' established blend of Californian occultism and hard-boiled fantasy.
