Synopsis
Empire of the Vampire is set twenty-seven years after Daysdeath, a mysterious event that plunged the world into permanent darkness and allowed vampires to conquer humanity. Gabriel de Leon, once known as the last living vampire hunter, is held captive and awaiting execution for assassinating the Forever King, one of the vampire lords who rule what remains of civilization. The Undying Empress's historian, Jean-Francois Chastain, is ordered to record Gabriel's entire life story, and the novel unfolds through this framing device, revealing how he became the world's most formidable vampire slayer as he recalls his training, his losses, and his long war against the vampire bloodline that murdered his family and transformed his wife. His account is complicated by the more recent discovery of Dior Lanchance, a young woman whose blood carries an unusual power against the vampires who now dominate the world.
