Synopsis
Empire of the Damned, the second book in Jay Kristoff's Empire of the Vampire series, follows Gabriel de Leon after he has recovered the Holy Grail but missed his chance to end the endless night that has gripped the world since Daysdeath. Forming an uneasy partnership with Liathe, a vampire whose motives remain unclear, Gabriel sets out to deliver the Grail to the ancient Blood Esani vampires in hopes of learning how the perpetual darkness might finally be broken. Along the way he is pursued by dangerous Blood Voss creatures, caught between warring vampire factions and the Highland duskdancers, and increasingly troubled by his own worsening bloodlust, a legacy of his earlier transformation. As Gabriel edges closer to an answer, he begins to suspect that whatever truth awaits him may be more difficult to face than the darkness he has spent his life fighting.
