Synopsis
The twelfth and final novel of the Imager Portfolio finds Charyn established as ruler of Solidar but still young and inexperienced, having recently survived an assassination attempt on his family. Solidar is described as being in chaos, with social upheaval, religious conflict, unrest among the common people and pressure from the entrenched High Holder aristocracy all converging at once. Charyn must contend with poverty and disenfranchisement among ordinary Solidarans even as the old nobility works to protect its privileges, and there are larger dangers moving beneath the surface that he has not yet fully grasped. The book follows his efforts to hold the realm together and impose order before it slides into complete collapse.
