Synopsis
Enna Burning is the second novel in Shannon Hale's Books of Bayern series, following The Goose Girl. Enna has returned to live in the forest with her elder brother Leifer, who finds an old scroll describing the secret of fire-speaking, a dangerous magical ability to command fire that he struggles to control once he is angered. When the neighboring country of Tira invades Bayern, Enna, her friends Razo and Finn, and Princess Isi travel to the war front, where Leifer's uncontrolled use of his gift proves disastrous. Determined not to let his knowledge go to waste, Enna takes up the same vellum and teaches herself fire-speaking despite Isi's warnings about its dangers, and must then try to master the power's hold over her while deciding how far she is willing to go to help defend Bayern.
