Synopsis
For centuries, mystical creatures of every description have been gathered to a hidden refuge called Fablehaven, to keep them from extinction: one of the last strongholds of true magic, where a sign at the gate warns trespassers they will be turned to stone. Kendra and her younger brother Seth have no idea that their grandfather is its current caretaker when they are left at his estate for a summer they expect to be dull. Inside the gates, fairies, satyrs and a witch in a shack are real, kept in balance by old bargains, and the house has rules the children must never break. Seth breaks them. On Midsummer Eve, when the preserve's darker inhabitants are loosed for a single night, the powers of evil he has unleashed force the two children to face the greatest challenge of their lives, to save their family, Fablehaven and perhaps the world.
