Synopsis
The town records list it as Erl King Hill, the Hill of the Elf King; to the locals it is simply the old Kessler place, a great ramshackle house deep in the woods of rural upstate New York, full of stories of haunted woods, dancing lights, buried treasure and children long lost. For the Hastings family, screenwriter Phil, his wife Gloria, their eight-year-old twins Sean and Patrick and Phil's teenage daughter Gabbie, newly moved from California, it is the stuff of dreams and a fresh start. Then the twins discover the secret of the woods and the luminous elfin beings who lure them towards an unearthly world of ancient Celtic magic, while an occult scholar who befriends the family traces old Kessler's links to an outbreak of occult mania in Germany in 1903. When Patrick is stolen and a changeling left in his place, Sean must go into Faerie to bring his brother home, as an ancient compact between the two worlds nears its end.
