Synopsis
Fifteen years after the last devastating Insect attack, the immortal Circle plans an offensive against the Insects using gunpowder. When barrels of gunpowder go missing, Jant, the Circle's winged Messenger, is sent to find out why. His investigation uncovers a conspiracy that targets him and his friends, and the people he trusts are not all what they seem. The story is told by Jant in the first person, as in the earlier books, and returns to the Castle, the Circle and the Fourlands after a long gap in publication.
