Synopsis
Before the war with the Insects took over his life, Jant Shira lived as a mountain hunter. In this prequel-style story, Awian exiles begin building a stronghold in the Darkling mountains, and the Rhydanne hunters who live there respond with violence. The Emperor sends Jant to mediate, because he is half Rhydanne and half Awian and belongs fully to neither people. In the mountains he has to face his own heritage, his drug use and his feelings for Shira Dellin, while trying to keep the two sides from open war.
