Synopsis
Jant, the only person in the Fourlands who can fly, has joined the immortal Emperor's Circle at Slake Cross, where the Circle plans to retake territory lost to the Insects. Then Cyan, the daughter of his friend Lightning, goes missing in the city of Hacilith, a place of new ideas and old crime. Jant sets out to find her, moving between the front line and the city streets while his drug habit pulls at him. As he searches, he begins to uncover a larger danger that reaches beyond one missing girl and that threatens the Circle itself.
