Synopsis

Fire & Blood is a fantasy history book by George R. R. Martin chronicling House Targaryen, the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria, from Aegon the Conqueror's founding of the Iron Throne through generations of Targaryen rule up to the civil war that nearly tore the dynasty apart. It is presented from the in-world perspective of Archmaester Gyldayn and set centuries before A Game of Thrones.

Where it sits

Notes

  • Targaryen history framed as Archmaester Gyldayn's in-universe chronicle. Absorbs The Princess and the Queen (2013), The Rogue Prince (2014) and The Sons of the Dragon (2017); those are not registered separately.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
