Synopsis
Fifteen years after the Red Ship War, FitzChivalry Farseer is living a quiet, secluded life under an assumed name, largely cut off from the court politics that once defined him. When Prince Dutiful, heir to the Six Duchies throne, disappears just before a crucial diplomatic wedding meant to secure peace with the Outislanders, Fitz is called back into royal service to retrieve the missing prince in time for the ceremony while concealing Dutiful's own hidden magical gift from those who would exploit it. The search uncovers dangerous conspiracies tied to forbidden magical bonds and extremist factions who see the prince's abilities as either a threat to be destroyed or a weapon to be seized.
