Synopsis

Forest Born is the fourth novel in Shannon Hale's Books of Bayern series. Rin, a fifteen-year-old girl with the unusual ability to draw peace from speaking with trees, lives with her large extended family in the forest but is privately convinced that something is deeply wrong with her, a fear rooted in childhood guilt over an incident with a young niece and later with a boy named Wilem. Believing the trees themselves have turned away from her because of this shame, and hoping that leaving home might change her the way it changed her brother Razo, Rin travels with Razo and his companion Dasha to Bayern's capital, where she takes up a position as a waiting woman to the queen and is drawn into palace affairs far from the quiet life she has always known.
