Synopsis
The first novel of Steven Erikson's Kharkanas Trilogy is a prequel to the Malazan Book of the Fallen set roughly three hundred thousand years earlier, in the Age of Darkness within the realm of Kurald Galain. The great warrior Vatha Urusander is publicly championed by his supporters to marry the goddess Mother Dark, but her chosen consort, Lord Draconus, stands firmly in the way of that ambition, and the resulting rivalry between the two men, and the factions gathering behind each of them, threatens to plunge the entire realm into a civil war whose consequences will echo forward through hundreds of thousands of years of Malazan history still to come.
