Synopsis
From Blood and Ash opens with Poppy, chosen before birth to serve as the Maiden, a sacred role that has kept her isolated, veiled, and untouched since childhood in preparation for her eventual Ascension. Guarded closely and denied an ordinary life, she has few freedoms and fewer choices of her own. That controlled existence is disrupted when Hawke, a new guard with striking golden eyes, enters her orbit, awakening feelings and questions that complicate her sense of duty and obedience. At the same time, the long-fallen kingdom of Atlantia is stirring again, its intentions toward the Maiden and the kingdom that keeps her turning increasingly violent, so that Poppy's private uncertainty about her own role becomes tangled with a widening threat to the entire realm she has been raised to serve.
