Synopsis
Frostbite is the second novel in the Vampire Academy series, opening not long after the events of the first book, as Rose Hathaway continues training to become a guardian at St. Vladimir's Academy. The Moroi vampire world is on edge after a Strigoi attack wipes out a royal Moroi family along with their guardians, an assault that appears to have had human collaborators, suggesting a conspiracy beyond ordinary Strigoi predation. When the school responds by sending students on a supervised ski vacation instead of holding classes as normal, the break becomes an uneasy retreat rather than a rest, since the same danger seems to be following them. Rose, still bonded psychically to princess Lissa Dragomir, must balance guardian training and the threat of further Strigoi violence with her feelings for her instructor Dimitri Belikov, while questions about who helped the attackers remain unresolved.
