Synopsis
Vampire Academy, the first novel in the series, follows Rose Hathaway, a dhampir -- half human, half vampire -- who is training to become a guardian sworn to protect her best friend Lissa Dragomir, a Moroi vampire and member of a royal bloodline. After two years spent on the run from St. Vladimir's Academy, where Moroi and their dhampir guardians are trained, Rose and Lissa are caught and brought back to resume their education under close watch. Rose must adjust to renewed academy life, including guardian training, court politics among the Moroi elite and a complicated, forbidden attraction to her instructor, Dimitri Belikov, all while remaining alert to the looming threat of the Strigoi, vampires who have given up their souls for immortal power and who hunt Moroi like Lissa without mercy.
