Synopsis
Only fools find themselves at Winterkeep after the first snowfall. The cold alone can kill, if you live long enough, and dangers far worse haunt the ruined keep in winter. But slavers have stolen her son, and she would sacrifice everything to get him back; in the uncaring, frozen north, will it be enough? Featuring a daughter of House Hiloar and a War Wizard of Cormyr, the fourth and last book of The Wizards, and the first novel of Mark Sehestedt, a long-time editor of Wizards of the Coast's book line.

Notes
- From the series record (The Wizards): A 4-book 2006 multi-author companion collection to The Nobles/The Harpers/The Priests/The Rogues, each following a different wizard: Steven E. Schend, James P. Davis, Bruce R. Cordell, Mark Sehestedt. Not to be confused with the unrelated, later 'Ed Greenwood Presents Waterdeep' series, which reuses the Blackstaff Tower setting in the 2010s.
Neighbouring works
Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
- Publication order, within the series The Wizards: position 4 of 4: previous Darkvision (2006)
- Internal chronology, within Forgotten Realms: position 170 of 215: previous Errand of Mercy (1998) · next The Yellow Silk (2004)
