Synopsis
The young witch Shingebiss pleads with the ancient shaman, her grandmother, to save the land. After her grandmother's death she travels to the Imperial City to spell the Czar and save the Northlands, which his avarice and suspicion are destroying. But the Czar is mad, his mind like a broken mirror, and when Shingebiss arrives at court with her true magic he takes her for an angel sent to him by God, the Czar's Black Angel. His deceitful English wizard, Master Jenkins, who has promised him a potion of immortality, is jealous of her, and tells the Czar that the most important ingredient of the elixir is the blood of an angel. Narrated, like the others, by a mystical cat, the third Ghost World book.
