Synopsis

Grave Peril is the third novel following wizard Harry Dresden in present-day Chicago. The story opens with Dresden and Michael Carpenter, a Knight of the Cross, investigating a dangerous ghost haunting Cook County Hospital, work that draws the attention of something far more malevolent, an entity that begins attacking Dresden and his allies through their dreams. Dresden traces the threat to the vengeful spirit of a dead sorcerer and serial killer who deliberately weakened the barrier between the living and the dead. As the danger escalates, Dresden is pulled into contact with several powerful supernatural factions at once, including his enigmatic faerie godmother Leanansidhe, rival vampire courts, and the wary oversight of the White Council, and he receives an invitation to a gathering of Red Court vampires that promises to raise the stakes of the case considerably.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Dresden Files): 18-novel main sequence (2000-2026, ongoing), narrated throughout by wizard-detective Harry Dresden. Publication order equals in-story chronological order for the entire main sequence. Peace Talks and Battle Ground (both 2020) were originally written as a single novel that grew too long and was split into two by the publisher, released 2.5 months apart, a genuine bibliographic quirk, not a numbering error. A 19th novel (Mirror Mirror) is announced for 2027 but unpublished and is not registered.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.
