Synopsis

Fool Moon is the second novel in The Dresden Files. Chicago's only professional wizard, Harry Dresden, is asked by Lieutenant Murphy to consult on a brutal homicide whose victim bears wolf-like claw marks, launching an investigation that reveals the city harbors several different kinds of werewolves, ranging from ordinary shapechangers to the far more dangerous loup-garou. The case grows more personal when a woman Dresden previously helped is found murdered near magical summoning circles connected to a wealthy man who appears to be a loup-garou, a type of werewolf that becomes an uncontrollable killer at the full moon unless properly contained. With suspicion once again falling on him, Dresden must untangle competing agendas among FBI agents with hidden motives, the crime boss Johnny Marcone, a motorcycle gang of lycanthropes, and a group of inexperienced young werewolves, all while the next full moon closes in.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Dresden Files): 18-novel main sequence (2000-2026, ongoing), narrated throughout by wizard-detective Harry Dresden. Publication order equals in-story chronological order for the entire main sequence. Peace Talks and Battle Ground (both 2020) were originally written as a single novel that grew too long and was split into two by the publisher, released 2.5 months apart, a genuine bibliographic quirk, not a numbering error. A 19th novel (Mirror Mirror) is announced for 2027 but unpublished and is not registered.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.

  • Reading order, within the series The Dresden Files: position 2 of 18: previous Storm Front (2000) · next Grave Peril (2001)
