Synopsis

Grim Tuesday finds Arthur Penhaligon forced to return to the House after six months have passed there, though only a day has passed on Earth, when the second Trustee exploits a loophole in the Will to seize illegitimate control of the Lower House and its treasury. Arthur, still adjusting to the strange authority the Will has granted him and to the toll his visits to the House are beginning to take on his own body, travels back to confront Grim Tuesday and retrieve the next fragment of the Will along with its accompanying Key. Along the way he must navigate the House's chaotic bureaucracy and the loyalties of its Denizens, uncertain how far he can trust anyone caught up in Grim Tuesday's scheme.

Where it sits

Awards (verified)

  • Locus Award (Young Adult Book), 2005: finalist; 9th place, no-cutoff convention.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Keys to the Kingdom): Core Canon = all 7 novels of the completed series (Scholastic US / HarperCollins UK / Allen & Unwin Australia, 2003-2010). Confirmed a separate, unrelated universe from Nix's The Old Kingdom, already in this canon -- different world, different magic system, no shared characters; both records are cross-referenced as being by the same author.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.
