Synopsis

Continuing his quest to reclaim the Will from the seven Trustees of the House, Arthur must navigate the perilous, ever-shifting Border Sea that separates the House's demesnes, a realm ruled by its own strange maritime customs and dangers. Seeking the third fragment of the Will, he confronts Drowned Wednesday, a Trustee afflicted with an insatiable, monstrous appetite that has left her almost entirely subsumed by her own curse, and must contend with a pirate captain and crew whose loyalties are far from certain. Arthur's growing responsibilities in the House continue to strain his life on Earth, even as the stakes of failing to secure Wednesday's Key and fragment of the Will grow clearer with every step deeper into the Border Sea.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Keys to the Kingdom): Core Canon = all 7 novels of the completed series (Scholastic US / HarperCollins UK / Allen & Unwin Australia, 2003-2010). Confirmed a separate, unrelated universe from Nix's The Old Kingdom, already in this canon -- different world, different magic system, no shared characters; both records are cross-referenced as being by the same author.

Neighbouring works

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.

  • Reading order, within the series The Keys to the Kingdom: position 3 of 7: previous Grim Tuesday (2004) · next Sir Thursday (2006)
