Synopsis

Half the World, the second novel in Joe Abercrombie's Shattered Sea trilogy, follows on from Half a King as Father Yarvi, now serving as Gettland's minister after his escape from slavery and return to the throne's service, works to gather allies for Gettland's looming conflict with the High King. Thorn Bathu, a fierce young warrior determined to prove herself despite the prejudice she faces as a woman fighter, and Brand, a capable but reluctant fighter who lacks the taste for killing that warfare demands, are drawn into Yarvi's schemes and join the crew of a ship setting out across the Shattered Sea. Their voyage in search of allies exposes them to unfamiliar lands and dangerous company, as all three find themselves entangled in Yarvi's long game of politics, vengeance, and survival far from home.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Shattered Sea Trilogy): A Viking-influenced YA/crossover trilogy, confirmed as a wholly separate continuity from Abercrombie's own First Law World (already admitted) -- standalone secondary-world setting, no shared characters, acquired by HarperCollins' children's/YA imprint rather than its adult fantasy line.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.

  • Reading order, within the series The Shattered Sea Trilogy: position 2 of 3: previous Half a King (2014) · next Half a War (2015)
