Synopsis

In fourteenth-century Rome, Nicolas Eymerich has escaped from prison and investigates a revived pagan cult that has infiltrated the high clergy as the papacy approaches the Great Western Schism. In a near future, Catalonia stays neutral during a devastating world war and gives refuge to the scientist Marcus Frullifer, whose work on physics and time leads him to build a starship driven by psychic power. In a distant future, humanity approaches the Omega Point, where a mysterious figure called the Magister presides over the last moments of the species. The three threads follow the inquisitor, the scientist and the end of history toward a shared conclusion.
