Synopsis

Opening the Voyage of the Jerle Shannara trilogy some 130 years after the Heritage of Shannara series, the story begins when the Elven prince Kael Elessedil is found adrift at sea carrying a mysterious set of maps that only two living people can read: Walker Boh, the last surviving Druid of Shannara, and the Ilse Witch, a young woman as ruthless as she is skilled in magic. Walker organizes an expedition aboard the airship Jerle Shannara to find the ancient magic the maps promise before his rival can claim it, assembling a crew that includes Bek Ohmsford, Quentin Leah, Ahren Elessedil, Panax, Ryer Ord Star, and the siblings Redden Alt Mer and Rue Meridian, along with the Wing Rider Hunter Predd and the shape-shifter Truls Rohk.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Internal chronology, within Shannara: position 17 of 32: previous The Talismans of Shannara (1993) · next Antrax (2001)
