Synopsis
The second novel of the Voyage of the Jerle Shannara trilogy follows the ship's companions as their search for the lost books of magic takes them to the distant continent of Parkasia, where the group becomes separated. They discover that the legendary magic books are in fact remnants of Old World science, preserved within a vast artificial intelligence called Antrax, which was created to protect the information it holds and has built lasers and robotic guardians called Creepers to repel intruders. Walker Boh becomes trapped within Antrax's domain while Bek Ohmsford, who carries the Sword of Shannara and wields wishsong magic, Ahren Elessedil, who works to recover lost Elfstones, and Quentin Leah, fighting alongside local inhabitants against Antrax's constructs, struggle to survive. The Ilse Witch also confronts Bek with revelations about their shared past even as the larger threat posed by the ancient machine intelligence grows.
