Synopsis
The closing volume of the Hollow Kingdom trilogy returns to the goblin realm some years after the death of the old king, Marak. Miranda, the human foundling raised in that first book, has spent her whole life being prepared to become the bride of Marak's heir, the young goblin king Catspaw, and the story opens with that long-expected marriage close at hand. The arrangement is upended when Nir, an elf lord unknown to the goblins, arrives at court proposing his own route to lasting peace between the elf and goblin peoples. His offer forces Catspaw and his advisers to weigh an alliance with the elves against the match Miranda has always expected, and Miranda finds herself drawn into Nir's private plans as the goblins and elves negotiate an uneasy future together.
