Synopsis

Into the Riverlands, third novella in the Singing Hills Cycle, follows cleric Chih and their companion Almost Brilliant as they travel through contested riverland territory alongside a small group of fellow travelers: the martial artist Wei Jintai, a man named Mac Sang, and a couple, Lao Bingyi and Mac Khanh, making their way home. Heading toward the river town of Betony Docks, the group exchanges stories along the road about the region's violent past, particularly the exploits of the once-feared Hollow Hand bandits. Their journey turns dangerous when they come across a body marked with the Hollow Hand's distinctive signature, raising fears that the group, long thought defeated, has returned.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Singing Hills Cycle): Ongoing connected-novella cycle following the wandering cleric Chih and their hoopoe companion Almost Brilliant, collecting oral histories across the world of Anh. A seventh entry, A Long and Speaking Silence, has been announced but not yet published as of this record.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
