Synopsis

Ironside: A Modern Faery's Tale, published by Holly Black in 2007, concludes the Modern Faerie Tales trilogy and returns to Kaye, the pixie changeling introduced in Tithe. Kaye has learned she was left in a human household as an infant in place of the real child who was taken, and her feelings for Roiben, now the brooding Lord of the Unseelie Court's Night Court, have only grown more complicated. When she rashly declares her love for him in front of his court, Roiben, bound by faerie custom, sets her an apparently impossible task in return: to find a faerie who is able to tell a lie. As Kaye pursues this near-paradoxical quest, tension builds toward a forced duel between Roiben and a champion of the rival Seelie Court, with the balance of power between the courts, and the two lovers' own fate, hanging on the outcome.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Modern Faerie Tales): A complete trilogy of contemporary faerie novels set in and around New York City, sharing a fictional faerie court (the Unseelie Court/New York Seelie enclave) distinct from Elfhame in Holly Black's later Folk of the Air books.
