Synopsis

Ironskin, described by its author as a steampunk retelling of Jane Eyre with fairies, is set in an alternate early-twentieth-century world recovering from a war between humans and the fey. Jane Eliot wears an iron mask over half her face to contain a fey curse that scarred her during the war, and takes a position as governess to Dorie, a strange young girl believed to be marked by her own fey curse, in the household of Dorie's father, the reclusive and enigmatic artist Edward Rochart. As Jane works to teach Dorie to control her curse, she becomes drawn to Rochart despite the secrets he keeps about his art and his past, and begins to uncover truths that challenge everything she has assumed about her own disfigurement and the possibility of a life beyond it, launching the trilogy that continues in Copperhead and Silverblind.
