Synopsis
Copperhead picks up after the events of Ironskin and shifts its focus to Jane's sister Helen. Jane has discovered that the fey can possess fashionable women through fey-touched cosmetic procedures that have become popular in high society, and wants to warn people away from them, but her poor social graces make her a weak advocate; Helen, more at ease in polite company, becomes the one who has to spread the warning instead. While trying to track down Jane and rescue an orphaned child caught up in the fallout, Helen must also navigate her increasingly controlling and possessive husband, and figure out what a new organization calling itself Copperhead is actually doing, and who the mysterious man named Rook who keeps turning up around her really wants. The novel follows Helen's growing independence as she is forced to rely on her own resourcefulness against both supernatural and very human threats.
