Synopsis
Isles of the Emberdark is a standalone Cosmere novel by Brandon Sanderson, expanding his 2014 novella Sixth of the Dusk. It follows that novella's protagonist, Sixth of the Dusk, known as Dusk, a trapper of magical birds called Aviar living among the Eelakin people of the archipelago First of the Sun. After an encounter sets his people on a race to modernize before they can be conquered by alien invaders called the Ones Above, Dusk realizes his people are outmatched and searches for another way to save them. His path leads him through a portal known as Patji's Eye into the Emberdark, where he meets Starling, a dragon confined to human form serving aboard a ship called the Dynamic, and her crew, who pursue an ancient map to a hidden portal. Dusk must decide whom to trust in his search to protect his homeland.
